Mauro Di Vito, the team has experienced success both in the Ontario league and in the AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) and the YBOA, both of which are USA based leagues. The success of this talented group of boys lies in the club’s philosophy which is to model their style of play after the “European” style, which emphasizes strict fundamentals and team concepts. This philosophy, coupled with the team’s unselfish style of play, makes them a force to be reckoned with.
Their success in Ontario gave this team the opportunity to test their skills amongst some of the best U.S. teams in their age bracket through various tournaments. The St David Blues have traveled to Louisville Kentucky, Indianapolis Indiana, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, Albany, New York (Gold Medal), Providence Rhode Island (Gold Medal), Hartford Connecticut (Gold Medal), Niagara Falls, New York (Gold Medal) Batavia New York (Gold Medal) U.S. National Championships 2005 (first Canadian team to play in Las Vegas Nationals), Dallas Texas 2008 Final Four, Las Vegas Nevada 2009 Final Four.
They have also caught the eye of some International Tournament organizers in Europe, Asia and the Caribbean. They have been invited to participate in a prestigious tournament in Italy in 2011, and are currently working on fundraising initiatives to help them to participate in this once in a lifetime opportunity.
When asked about his vision for this team, Head Coach Mauro Di Vito replies “I want to prepare the boys for the next level.” What this next level is remains to be seen, but if the past has been any indication, we can look forward to a very successful future for these young athletes.
